Gear Talk: Banjo

The year was 2011. Some song about a lion man by Mumford and Sons is scorching the charts. As an avid listener of Alt Nation on Sirius XM radio, I hear this song a million times a day. Folk is back. Authenticity is back. Electronic music is dead.

I then do what I any cool teenager does which is ask my parents for a banjo for Christmas. I then proceed to barely touch the thing for over a decade except for every once in a blue moon.

Nowadays when I am working on music I will have the inclination that a certain song could use a little extra twang. I’ll open up my banjo chords bookmark in my web browser of choice and try and figure out how the hell to make the shapes.

One of these days I’ll dig in and try to master in.
