Post #63 - Here Comes the Hotstepper

What I've been listening to this week, a movie rec and some pics.

What I’ve Been Listening to This Week?!

Here’s a new bit that might just stick. I made a little playlist. 10 tracks. All bangers. These have all been in digital rotation for me the past week.

  1. “Pretty Eyes Lorraine” - Florry

Here’s another ripper from one of my most anticipated albums of this year.

  1. “Terminal Way” - Bill Fox

I heard about this in the recommendation corner section of a previous indiecast episode and then Jeff Tweedy did a cover of it in his newslettter. The harmonica wails.

  1. “Welcome to My Blue Sky” - Momma

Momma said knock you out because damn! This band has got some tunes.

  1. “Barely Legal” - Real Estate

Real Estate covering The Strokes. Pretty cool! This was just released on the b-sides/rarities compilation they just put.

  1. “Point and Shoot” - Greg Freeman

I heard a lot of people stumping for Greg Freeman off of his last album and I got it. He sounds just like Jason Molina. My ears perked up listening to this new single though.

  1. “Guess I Started a Band” - Slippers

A jangly indie pop earworm for your brain.

  1. “Real Love” - The Beatles

Good band. Good song.

  1. “Here Comes the Hotstepper” - Dr. Dog

This originated in an episode of What Makes This Song Stink which I mentioned last week. As part of his Stop the Train campaign (to get people to stop playing Train songs on the radio), the host Pat recruited his friends in Dr. Dog to cover the iNi Kamoze song.

  1. “Mountain” - Hannah Cohen

Shoutout to the Catskill mountains. They’re nice. This album sounds immaculate btw.

  1. “Rocket Pad” - The Apples in Stereo

James Mercer of The Shins highlighted this song in the documentary on the Elephant 6 Collective as being formative for him. A pretty much perfect lo-fi indie rock bop.

“The Ballad of Wallis Island”

Alicia and I went to the local cinema this past week to see this flick. We snuck in a ziplock full of popcorn in her bag but we still support local businesses so we bought a small fountain soda. Really the popcorn there is just no good. That’s the problem. Anyways… this movie was great. A lottery winner tries to get his favorite indie folk duo from the early 2000’s back together to perform at his remote island. Hilarity and real emotional growth for the protagonist's ensues.
